Surprise Horse Properties

When you search for a home, there are probably a few things you look for that will make you happy. For instance, you aren’t likely to buy a house that is too small to sleep in or that has a roof in disrepair. These conditions also apply if you own a horse. You want it to be happy, so make sure your horse receives the best housing possible. There are several horse properties in and around Surprise, Ariz. But how can you tell which one is best for you and your horse?

By definition, a horse property is any lot of land or real estate where horses can reside. A horse property could be a large ranch, a small farm or a home in an equestrian subdivision. Generally, any home with a large enough lot of land can qualify for this definition. As you can see, horse properties include a vast range of real estate. When you search for a horse property online, it may be hard to determine which property would fit your needs. Here are two key elements that contribute to the happiness of your horse.

  • Stable Design. Since the stable serves as a shelter for your horse, it is important to make sure it serves this purpose well. Horses tend to catch colds easily, so it’s best to prevent this with windproof walls. You should also check for good drainage or a stall located on higher terrain. Most diseases originate in the hoof of a horse, so it is important to keep the floors dry. Walls made of wood may be common, but brick is warmer and better for your horse.
  • Land. Your property should have at least 1.5 acres for each horse. If there is fencing, the posts should be at least 4.5 feet high. Hedges also work, but make sure there aren’t any holes or gaps.
  • You should also pay close attention to the water supply. The best way to provide water is by piping it in. A fresh water supply is absolutely vital to your horse’s health and happiness. As you search for a property, you may want to look for a stream or water source nearby.

As you search for a horse property, location should also play a key role. The city of Surprise happens to be one of Arizona’s fastest growing cities, but has retained enough open space to be a comfortable home for your horse. Temperatures here can rise above 100 degrees in the summer, however, so a stable can provide welcome relief from the extreme heat. If you decide to move here, you can enjoy magnificent sunsets and brilliant blue skies.

As you search for horse properties in Surprise, it is important to keep the above suggestions in mind. Ultimately, you know your horse better than anyone else, so it’s up to you to determine which type of property will be the best.
