In Arizona, the educational system is managed by the state and local school districts. The majority of Surprise is located in the Dysart Unified School District No. 89. Arizona State University West is a public university, specializing in education, business, protective services, communications and psychology. In September of 2005, 5,000 students were attending this university, for both bachelors and masters degrees. Rio Salado Community College offers associates degrees and certificate programs both in class and on the Internet. Popular programs include business, education, health care and law enforcement. Maricopa Skill Center is the vocational school located in Surprise. They offer programs in automated manufacturing, business and computer technology, cosmetology, health care services and trade services.
